I've received my first postcard from Brazil (and only my second from South America). This impressive structure is the Cathedral of Brasília (officially Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida) located in the capitol of Brazil, Brasília. It is a Roman Catholic cathedral which was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and was completed in 1970.
The stamp is gorgeous! It shows the Theatro Municipal de Rio do Janeiro celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2009. It's hard to tell from my scan, but the little symbol in the lower righ corner is gold leaf. The theater was inspired by the Paris Opéra, and it's not hard to see the similarities. Two distinctly different buildings, but both beautiful in their own way!
