Is it too soon to be thinking of spring? Probably, but the cold is getting me down so a nice, pleasant outdoor reading scene was definitely needed as the header to my post! If things were quiet over the holiday break, since I have been back at work my email inbox has been full of bookish goodness to make up for it. Lots of links to share. (In case you don't already have plenty to read this weekend)!
I am happy to see that former President Obama and I had a little overlap in our reading last year! I quite like Roxane Gay's reading list, too, and her #1 book is already on the top of my own TBR pile for this year.
There are some interesting book to film adaptations coming this year. I am especially excited to see (and must read the books first) Maria Semple's, Shirley Jackson's and Mary Ann Shaffer's books on the list. And here is an even longer list!
A new year and a new season of book prizes is already upon us. I am always interested to see which books end up in the Tournament of Books. I have not yet read any of them but there are several that I would like to.
Even more books to look forward to this month.
My monthly reading prompt is my own personal reading challenge and which worked well for me last year, but I have to say--if I was going to join any other one this year I am quite tempted by the NYPL Read Harder Challenge. They have 24 different challenges/themes for books to choose over the course of the year and I like them very much. If nothing else I might save the list and cherry pick from it over the course of the year!
For once a list of thrillers where I have read more of them than not!
I'll be spending the weekend finishing a couple of books (this and this) I hope, dropping by the bookstore (gift card in hand!), picking up a few library holds, maybe seeing a movie and looking forward to the coming few days of milder temperatures we are being forecast! Happy Reading everyone!
