Murphy's Law Concerning Finishing:
- If you think fnishing a fob will take about an hour--it won't. It will take at least twice as long and maybe even longer.
- If you think you have made plenty of these before, so this one is going to be a piece of cake--it isn't. It is going to be harder than any of the fobs you made before.
- If you decide to use a sewing machine because it will be faster and easier--it won't. As it turns out the fabric you used will be soft and fray easily.
- If you think everything looks okay before you turn the fob inside out, and cut off the excess fabric--you will have cut off too much.
- If you think that you are ready to turn your fob inside out and can now admire your work--you will see just how badly you sewed it. You will then need to very carefully pick the entire thing out and redo everything by hand.
I never learn. But that is okay, as I am getting really good at fixing my mistakes (as I make plenty of them), so that it almost looks as though I really didn't just spend a frustrating afternoon finishing what would normally be the easiest thing to finish in all of needlework land! I am being bad, as this is the gift I have been working on for ages, but I am sharing a finished photo of it before I mail it out anyway. I am pretty sure my friend has been too busy to keep up with blogs, so I don't think she will have seen this before it actually arrives in the mail. Yes, finally it is finished! This really should not have taken me as long to stitch and finish as it has, but that is life for you. I always underestimate how long anything will take! I am, however, happy that it turned out as nice as it did considering the problems I had. I really should know better by now that something this small really needs to be finished by hand! I have problems with sewing machines and making straight lines! Of course had I not told you I had problems--you might not have even guessed, eh? Like I said I am getting good at fixing mistakes. Someday I may even get better at not making them in the first place! LOL.
Anyway, this is from a Shepherds Bush kit. I love beeskeps, as you can probably tell from many of the my finishes lately. I thought this would be a good choice for a gift, since summer officially starts next week. I filled it with those tiny little plastic poly pellets, so it has a nice weighty feel to it, and it lays quite nicely. Today I took a day of vacation from work and this is about the only thing I have accomplished! I guess I should add one more thing to my Murphy's Law list--you never get as much accomplished on your day off as you think you will!!
