Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee this year marking her sixty year reign over the Commonwealth realms (surpassed in length only by Queen Victoria). She acceded the throne in 1952 and was crowned in 1953. This very cool card came by way of John at Scriptor's Postcrossing. The postcard was issued by Royal Mail on 2 February 2012, which marked the anniversary. The information on the card reads:
Kings and Queens - The House of Windsor and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Elizabeth II). Reproduced from a stamp designed by Atelier Works, featuring Queen Elizabeth II (b. 1926), 1954 (oil on canvas), Fishmongers' Hall, London, UK/The Bridgeman Art Library, portrait by Pietro Annigoni.
I was hoping to get a card of the Queen this year during her celebration.
And I have to share the stamps as they are literary stamps. On the left is Roald Dahl of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory fame and T.S. Eliot (painting from the National Portrait Gallery) on the right.
Thanks John!
