Sorry, I have to post one more time about this BBC series. It is simply too good, and I am putting it back on my Amazon Wishlist! I watched the last four episodes of season one last night. I had been spacing the shows out, but once I started I didn't want to stop!
Archie MacDonald is now a Londoner for the last ten years, on the verge of opening a stylish new restaurant with his girlfriend when he is called back up to his ancestral home in Scotland. Although his father does have a bit of an accident, he is tricked into coming and they desperately want him to stay. It turns out he has been named Laird, and he must try and save his crumbling (and quite HUGE and gorgeous castle). So it is a bit of a back and forth, he really wants to return home to London, but responsibility forces him to stay.
What follows, of course, is a series of adventures, some quite comical as he tries to juggle his life and responsibilities in Scotland and London (Scotland generally winning out). The Amazon description calls the characters "endearing, mildly eccentric characters among them is Lexie (Dawn Steele), the estate's sexy, street-smart cook; shy Duncan (Hamish Clark), an underachieving, kilt-wearing handyman; leftist land-reformer Katrina (Lorraine Pilkington), warily circling Duncan as a romantic interest; and avuncular, lovably laconic groundskeeper Golly (Alexander Morton)." Sorry, I had to quote directly as I don't think I could describe them better--however it is Lexie that warily circles Duncan as a love interest and not Katrina as the description implies! He also has this batty old father who is highly amusing and his lovely mother who tries and sort things out. Of course there is a bit of a love triangle between Archie, his girlfriend, and Katrina. And I just wonder how Lexie will come into all of this later on down the road as well. As you can see I have really gotten into this story, so I will be requesting season two from my library today, though I imagine I will have to wait to get my hands on it as there is (not surprisingly) a waiting list. I hope this series is still going on in Britain, as I know I want more Glenbogle!
