This is one of my purchases last Friday. I had never seen this book before or even heard of it. Considering this is a "Signet Classic", I wonder how I could have missed it. I know I have missed a lot of the classics in terms of reading them, but I thought I was pretty aware at least, of what is out there and considered "classic literature". What else am I missing? The original copyright is 1954, and this edition is from 2002. According to the back cover it was named "Notable Book of 1955 by the American Library Association". Anyway, it sounded good. "This beautiful and eloquent story tells of a simple peasant woman in a primitive village in India whose whole life was a gallant and persistent battle to care for those she loved--an unforgettable novel that will wring your heart out".
