Here you see my Sunday afternoon accomplishments. As cooking goes, I don't really like it, and it is always a bit of a toss up when I try out a new recipe as to whether it will turn out or not. I have a few tried and trusted dishes, but I would prefer to pass on cooking if I could! Now, baking is another story. I go in phases where I will be Betsy Baker, and I guess today was one of those days. Wile I don't think Martha will be calling me on the phone offering me a job anytime soon, usually my baking projects are reasonably successful. I tried some new recipes from Everyday Food, which I have mentioned before.
I made a sour cream coffee cake (for once it actually looks like the picture in the magazine). It was a little more work than I expected, and I don't know how many dishes I dirtied to make this one, but it is very tasty. The cookies are flourless peanut-chocolate cookies, which were very easy to make. And the last plate has raspberry turnovers. This was my first attempt at using frozen puff pastry. They don't look exactly like the picture (mine seem much more puffier), but they taste pretty good. I will have to try using the puff pastry again, as it was sort of fun to work with.
Of course I did little else today, other than the regular chores. Very little reading or stitching! My flowers that I bought yesterday remain unplanted on my porch. I still have laundry to fold-yuck! But we will have plenty of goodies here at my house for the next week!! And once again, I highly recommend this magazine, if you like to cook (or not...like me). They have a nice variety of recipes, and lots of color pictures (which is a good thing when you are not a master chef--like me!).
