There are some books that you never want to end, and then there are some books that you can't wait to finish...I'm afraid "The Eyre Affair" falls into this latter category. I didn't totally dislike it, and given time, I imagine I might pick up the next book in the series (which I am told is better than the first). The title is a bit misleading, as Jane Eyre doesn't enter the story until nearly the last 100 pages! The book is certainly clever--I will agree with the quote on the cover. There is lots of word play, humor, and literary allusions. But there were moements when these very things would grate on me ever so slightly. It was just enough for me to want to speed through it rather than savor it. So while I won't completely pan it, reader beware. I have two coworkers who really love the series, so go figure!
