...to be planting. Every year at this time I plant my wee garden--such as it is. I guess I wouldn't exactly call it a real garden. I have tried growing various things with dubious success each year. I have decided this year to cut back a bit. I usually plant tomatoes, chiles, and cilantro (well, that used to come up on its own, but this year it hasn't--but we did eat green onions this past weekend that come up each year on their own).
The problem is my house faces south, so the sun hits the front of the house and the west side quite nicely. I don't really want a bunch of vegetables growing on my front lawn, and I can't plant them on the west side as that is where the driveway is. So they end up on the east side without enough light. It is impossible to plant in the back as we have too many trees and not enough sunshine back there. Last year I tried container gardening. While it wasn't a total bust, I guess I just don't want to deal with it this year.
So I have planted my first container with lovely little petunias and some other green plants this past weekend. Shall I post a picture, or too boring? (Too late to take one now...maybe tomorrow). As I am working with limited funds, I will buy enough flowers for a couple containers each paycheck. I think I will plant two round containers and about three rectangular window boxes for the porch. Last year the nasty worms ate their way through my petunias--we'll see what happens this year. By the way, the book above is wonderful. It has the loveliest containers with gorgeous flowers. I usually stick with regular old petunias, but I really need to try something shown in the book. I drag it out every year at this time! Any other gardeners out there? I realize that in referring to myself the term is used quite loosely...
