I just finished reading Natsuo Kirino's Out. It is about as noir as they come! This is one of two books being discussed over at Reading Matters. I know I joked about it earlier when I had just started it, but this book is really pretty twisted. I can't say that I "enjoyed" it, but it was certainly a very compelling read. This is a view of Japan I would never have imagined! I had read several reviews of the book when I first started it, so some of what came at the end was not completely surprising to me, but there was still some shock value to it. I am not sure how I feel about the ending. Masako, one of the main characters, did surprise me a bit at the end in terms of her feelings. I don't want to give away any big details and spoil it for anyone who might plan on reading it. I believe more of Kirino's books are being translated into English, which I may read just to see where she could possibly go from here! I will have to pop on over and see what others thought of this book!
