I try. I really do try. I went to the bookstore after work today with the sole intention of finding a copy of the Just Cross Stitch Christmas Ornaments issue that was just released. As you can see--I found it. I know I should have picked it up and walked straight to the cash register, but where is the fun in that? I love magazines--generally speaking they are really quite frivolous (well the decorating ones are anyway). I came across two new ones that were too enticing to put back on the shelf after I leafed through them--Country Living Collecting (this one is new--the premier issue), and Style 1900. I pick up Country Living occasionally, so this one I knew I would get. Style 1900 is really cool and I had never seen it before! I have studied this period in art and after living in Vienna, I am very attracted to this type of art and architecture. There are articles on Amish quilts, and Glasgow artists of this time (including Charles Rennie Macintosh). I can't wait to read it!
Finally I decided to just check out the mystery section and forgo the other areas (to try and avoid some temptation). I have just seen the author Morag Joss' name somewhere (can't remember where at the moment), but after reading the blurb on a couple of her mystery books I chose Fearful Symmetry. It is her second book--unfortunately they didn't have her first. Her mysteries are set in Bath, England, and Sara, the protagonist is a cellist. The London Times is quoted as saying, "A mesmerising psychological thriller", and that pretty much sold me. I may, however have to find the first in the series--I hate doing things out of order...
