...Look what came in the mail today at work...I always love looking through this every month. This month's copy seems to be a particularly thick one. I guess it is that time of year--all the holiday stuff coming out! Each month they focus on one particular topic. This month it is university press titles. Here are some of the more interesting titles I found (in no particular order):
- The Life All Around Me by Ellen Foster, Kaye Gibbons
- Women's Letters: America from the Revolutionary War to the Present, Lisa Grunwald (this one is going on my wish list)
- The Lost Painting, Jonathan Harr
- Christopher Marlowe: Poet & Spy, Park Honan
- Oxford Companion to the Photograph, Robin Lenman
- The Jungle Law, Victoria Vinton
- Madeleine is Sleeping, Sarah Shun-Lien Bynum (I want this one!)
- The Mercy of Thin Air, Ronlyn Domingue (hate the cover, but I want this one, too)
- Why She Married Him, Myriam Chapman
- Master Pieces: The Curator's Game, Thomas Hoving
- The Lighthouse, P.D. James
- In the Company of the Courtesan, Sarah Dunant
- A Year in the World: Journeys of a Passionate Traveller, Frances Mayes
- Voices from a Time, Sylvia Bonucci
- The Alchemist's Daughter, Katherine McMahon
- Pretty Little Dirty, Amanda Boyden
- The Ghost Orchid, Carol Goodman
- The Accidental, Ali Smith
- Maryjane's Stitching Room Workbook, MaryJane Butters
- The Caliph's House, Tahir Shah
Once again I have my list--a bit of a mishmash really. It's hard to say which ones will be really good, and which ones will be duds. Lately my tastes have been leaning more towards older books rather than newer titles. However, I am sure a few of these will end up on my book pile nonetheless.
