***Warning spoilers if you read or watch the Elizabeth George mystery series***!! Last night I finally got to watch what I thought was the last episode of the Inspector Lynley series. It veers away from the books quite a bit in this last episode. If you have been reading the books, of course you know that the last intallment (With No One As Witness) saw the demise of Helen Lynley. I have to say I was rather shocked and disappointed George took this route. I know other readers have said she needed to do something to continue on with the series, but did she really need to kill off Lynley's pregnant wife?? Needless to say, I have been sucked into the series, so I will doubtless buy the next one regardless (how many years will we have to wait, though?).
I had thought I had also seen all the BBC adaptations as well, but it seems I missed entirely four volumes. My library has the first mystery (only one episode), and then jumps to volume 2. I just finished watching volume 3, but there is a set that is volume 1 that I didn't even know was out there. As my library does not own it, I think I will have to order it. I will have to start from the beginning again (trust me not a chore). Now the question is--when is PBS going to air the new episodes? From what I can tell, they have already been shown by the BBC in Britain. At first I was not too thrilled (as I am sure I have mentioned) about the TV series, as the actors differ greatly (in my opinion) from the descriptions of them in the books. But once I started watching them....well, as I said I am fairly addicted to them. I guess now I don't mind too much if the TV series takes artistic license with the storyline if it means Helen gets to continue on. Last night in the last episode I watched--Helen was in a car accident, but she survived (unfortunately she lost the baby). I'm off to search PBS to see if I can figure out when we get to see more Lynley!
