It had to happen sooner or later...I finally went to the bookstore and used one of my gift certificates. Not only did I get some great books (and a few magazines even), but I managed to have a little left over on the card as well! I mostly wanted to go today as Carol Goodman's new book was released today, The Ghost Orchid. I have read all her novels, and I couldn't wait until this one came out. I don't even bother checking her stuff out from the library or try to wait for the paper edition. Her books are considered "literary mysteries/thrillers". I have liked all of them, even if they tend to be very similar really. She used to publish new books in the summer, but this time around I had to wait an additional half a year. So once again I will have to reorganize the book pile, as I plan on starting this one tonight. My other finds: Seven Types of Ambiguity by Elliott Perlman (I have this one checked out from the library, too, but it is fairly big and heavy to drag around with me, so I splurged on the paperback), Imagined London: A Tour of the World's Greatest Fictional City by Anna Quindlen (sounds like fun!!), Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos (I have wanted to read this one for a long time), Bleak House by Charles Dickens (I am totally sucked into the Masterpiece Theatre presentation of this and now must read it!), and The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles (in anticipation of my Modern Library list). Now off to start my new book...
