I really wasn't going to share anymore photos of my cleaning endeavors this weekend, but I was stunned that so many books could have fit into one booskshelf! Granted I am pretty good at finding creative ways to stack them (two deep each shelf and on top). I should have took a really good photo and held a contest--guess how many books are on these shelves (like they do with jars of candy!), but maybe next time! I took the books off in order to move the shelves to the left and put these things called shims under it to help level it off, as it has been leaning precariously forward for a little too long now.
I also didn't really expect this to be as time consuming of a project as it has turned out to be. I spent all evening resorting books and trying to get them back on the shelf (it felt like a really big, and somewhat heavy jigsaw puzzle). All I can say is thank goodness I have more or less stopped buying hardcovers and just borrow them from the library! I wasn't going to weed, but I ended up filling two large shopping bags with handles with books. I will try a used bookstore first, but most of them are more of less cast-offs and I am not sure if they will have any interest in buying them. The books on the right are all classics, and I have decided they deserve a new bookshelf all by themselves. There must be at least 300 piled up, so I hope I can find a large enough set of shelves for them. I looked at Menards today, and I found one, but I am not sure it will be big enough. I am glad I waited to buy anything. I am more or less finished, but I do have a closet full of books (not as many as were spread out on the floor!), that I plan on weeding as well. I wasn't very good about putting them in any sort of order, but since it was a matter of not having a lot of space to work with, it was too hard to think in those terms. I am just happy they more or less fit.
I did manage to go to the library today, and I started The Hound of the Baskervilles, too. But I will share these things for a different day. I promise not to bore you much longer with more cleaning news!
