Earlier today I read on Heather's blog that the new issue of Book Forum is out. Wonderful, I thought. My copy might just be waiting for me when I come home. No. No luck. Junk mail, though no bills thankfully. I thought maybe my Amazon order (remember I recently ordered a few Daphne DuMaurier books from the UK) might be here...surely enough time has passed since I ordered them? Nope. No lovely Amazon box waiting for me. Perhaps one of the books I mooched from other readers via BookMooch will be there (there are three in the mail, and an additional three more that I have requested)? Naw, that would be too easy. Should I admit to the used copies of a few Thomas Hardy novels I ordered (for a very inexpensive price mind you!)? Well, they weren't waiting for me either.
However, I have been treated to a brand spanking new copy of The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger! Many thanks to my friend Pam! Somewhere I was complaining about the grody library copy I checked out. Now don't get me wrong. You know I use the library all the time, but I tend to request books when they are nice and new, hence the books themselves are nice and new. When something as popular as The Time Traveler's Wife has been in circulation for a couple of years, surely you can imagine the condition of the book? It is a hardcover and it looks like it might have been dropped in a bathtub--half of the pages are crumpled, and the book is partially falling apart. I hate to sound like some terrible book snob, but I am sort of particular about my books. I had tried to find a copy to mooch, and of course there wasn't one. Pam had a second copy and she kindly sent it along to me. So, yay, I got something good in the mail after all! And I take it this was a good choice, right? I keep hearing all over the place that this is a wonderful book! First things first, though. I have just over 100 pages left of The Thirteenth Tale, and I can't possibly put it down now! So I am off to see how things turn out!
