Now this is the project for me! Thanks to Ex Libris for the heads up that Susan Hill is organizing a Virginia Woolf for Dummies group. You may remember, though hopfully you have fogotten due to my miserable failure, that some time ago I said I wanted to start reading Virginia Woolf's books. I even splurged on books by Woolf, read the rather lengthy introduction to A Room of One's Own, and then promptly set it on my nightstand to wait for a moment when I had a chunk of time to get into it (and where it is still sitting today). Now I make no promises. I am forever joining in groups to read books and sometimes I get them done on time and sometimes not (we won't mention War and Peace...but it is not forgotten!). Perhaps this is what I need to get going on reading Woolf. I am not expecting to keep up with the group, but it might help me stay motivated and help guide me through the rough spots. The group is beginning with reading a chapter from Lyndall Gordon's biography of Woolf and then on to her first novel, A Voyage Out. Hopefully I will get further than just thinking it is a good idea!
It looks like perfect timing as Virginia Woolf's story "Kew Gardens" is the next story that will be read and discussed at A Curious Singularity (October 10). I didn't finish this month's story "The Dead" by James Joyce (though it is on my nightstand and I will do so, just a little late). Dorothy is also setting up a "litwiki", and the Woolf story will be the pilot. So there will be lots of opportunities to read and discuss Woolf coming up in the near future!
