It is Friday. It has been a long week! And like Dorothy, I am feeling somewhat uninspired, so I am posting another meme--can you figure out what I am reading? I will give you a hint...it is a book from my night stand (the list is on my sidebar to the right). Any guesses?
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
"Or, if it came to that, there might quite well have been somebody lurking in the Hall while Harriet and Miss Hudson were talking in the passage."
"I've mucked it up a bit," said Harriet. "I ought to have turned on the Hall lights to make sure."
Miss Barton re-entered with the Dean, who took one look round and said 'Mercy!' "
What do you think?

I do have a question? Do you find that you tend to read books primarily of a certain type? Whenever I take a look at the books I'm reading, or want to read, they seem to be overwhelmingly historical fiction. I have considered my tastes as being fairly eclectic, but I feel like I am always reading books with similar settings or time periods. I think I need to read more contemporary literature. And it isn't as though I don't have plenty to choose from at home, but I still always seem to opt for certain kinds of stories. Or maybe it is just a case that most books are not necessarily set in the here and now? My one exception is Eat, Pray, Love, which was written a couple of years ago, but that's nonfiction, so it sort of doesn't count.
Whenever I am reading bookblogs, I don't just read the posts, but I will look at the books people have read or are reading (for those like me who have a pile), what they have in their libraries (Library Thing), what ratings they give books. There is usually a plethora of interesting information out there. I have noticed The Hobgoblin of Little Minds tends to read not just a book, but several books by one author. And Susan has been working on her Rebecca West project. Although I like the idea of this, it is something I rarely do (though if I was actively reading Virginia Woolf, I could count that. But maybe I will catch up there). I have found that if I want a recommendation of a certain type of book, there are times I will go to certain book blogs, as I do see some reading patterns that others have as well. Okay. I realize that I am somewhat obsessive about these sorts of things. Surely I am not the only one who wonders about them?
