Last week at work a copy of Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return came across my desk. Actually I'm the person who requested that we get the book, as we own Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, so I thought we really should have the sequel in the collection as well, and why not also get Embroideries. Of course our copy of Persepolis has been checked out by a patron for the last month (and then they renewed it...) just when I've taken an interest.
When the new books arrived I had to flip through them and had to start reading and they captured my interest right away. And not being patient enough to wait for these books to be cataloged or the older book to be returned, I went to the public library and checked out the lot of them. I've never been very tempted to read graphic novels, but I'm very keen now to give them a try. I've wanted to read Satrapi's work in any case, so she seemed like the best place to start. Do you read graphic novels? Any good recommendations? By the way, the Persepolis novels have been made into a film!
On a side note, I think I am finally going to invest in a MP3 player. I'm leaning heavily towards this one. I have a little birthday money to spend as well as a Walmart gift card, so the planets are aligned and I think now's the time. I was just wondering how many GBs I should get. Technically I don't think I can afford more than 2GB. I don't want to spend too much money and I have a fear of it being lost or stolen (so the less expensive the better). I also don't need anything too fancy, as I mainly want it to play music (both saving songs and having an FM tuner), and load podcasts and books onto the player. I'm terrible at figuring out how much fits into the space though. I know with this model you can load up to 1,150 songs (more than enough for me), but I wonder how books work. I've looked on my library's website (and discovered that iPods don't work for the books they offer), and they do have tutorials to walk you through the process. I thought once you loaded the book that's it, but technically you still only check it out. Does it disappear after three weeks? All this is new to me, but first things first--deciding which to buy. I'm being awfully progressive this week, aren't I? First graphic novels and now an MP3 player. What will I shock you with next.
