Okay, I'm being a bit of a book glutton. I shouldn't be sharing yet another new books post (the second in only three days--very bad), but I can't not share my new books. I am in love with the new Persephone Classics! Aren't these gorgeous? I think I might (almost) like them more than the plain dove gray covers. Of course those dove gray covers are so sophisticated and lovely looking--all uniform on my bookshelves and inviting the reader to look inside and find out what wonderful story the covers are embracing!
I believe these are due to be published in the US in the Fall, but after seeing that they had been released already in the UK, I couldn't help myself. The Book Depository is offering them for what turns out to be the equivalent of $13.00 (plus free shipping). Amazon is offering them for just slightly cheaper, but you'll need to wait. I got Dorothy Whipple's Someone at a Distance and a short story collection by Mollie Panter-Downes, Good Evening Mrs Craven: The Wartime Stories of Mollie Panter-Downes, which I will be reading after I finish this collection.
The only downside to ordering from a vendor rather than Persephone directly--no bookmark. I'm not entirely sure these even come with those distinctive bookmarks. Otherwise the contents are the same, though the inside flaps are gray tones rather than color. All in all, these are nicely presented and I can't wait to read both of them!
I'm squeezing in a couple of new reads. I'm trying to think ahead and have pulled out my copy of Edith Wharton's The Glimpses of the Moon, which the Slaves are reading and discussing later this month. I've also pulled out my copy of The Princesse de Clèves by Madame de Lafayette, which was published in the late seventeenth century. I was inspired to grab it from my shelves after reading this post. I'm close to finishing several books, so the timing is perfect. Now to find time to sit on my porch and read with my legs up and an icy cold glass of ice tea (or maybe lemonade) within reach!
And one question--slightly off topic. Is it just me, or do you like to check out what bloggers have on their sidebars? I'm always so curious what's on the side--what books have people just finished reading, what they're reading now or interesting sites they link to. I get myself into trouble when I spend a lot of time looking around!
