I get some of the best book ideas from the readers in my Dovegreybooks group. I just heard that The Bloomsbury Group is going to be publishing a "new library of books from the early twentieth-century chosen by readers for readers." One of the books was actually suggested by a Dovegreybooks member!
Mrs. Hargreaves, Frank Baker - I own this one--a lovely old Penguin edition, that I really must read this year. Simon at Stuck in a Book has been an unfailing advocate for this book, and it's thanks to him that I own a copy already.
The Brontes Went to Woolworths, Rachel Ferguson - I read this last year. It's a quirky but excellent story that has been long out of print and impossible to find. I'll finally be able to get my own copy now!
Henrietta's War: News from the Home Front: 1939-1942, Joyce Dennys
A Kid for Two Farthings, Wolf Mankowitz
Mrs. Tim of the Regiment, D.E. Stevenson
I'm not familiar with the last three titles, but you can be sure I'll be checking them out as their descriptions certainly sound like something I would like to read. As yet there are no details on jacket design (I'm always curious). These are due out in August and hopefully will also be available here from Amazon. I wonder if they'll continue this series? And perhaps they might keep the works of Richmal Crompton in mind? I love publishers who bring back into print worthy reads that have long ago fallen by the wayside.
Since I'm on the subject of new books, I also picked up the latest BookPage when I was at the library. I've marked a couple more I'll be looking for as well.
A Jury of Her Peers: American Women Writers from Anne Bradstreet to Annie Proulx, Elaine Showalter (I may have to buy this one).
Spring is traditionally a big publishing season, it's just a matter of finding what's out there. These are already on my wishlist. Which new books are on yours?
