Nothing bookish today, I'm afraid. My niece made her First Communion this morning and we had a little reception after. There's some cleaning up to be done still and then the usual weekend chores to finish. It's raining like crazy, which I always think is the perfect sort of reading weather, so if I hurry I can get in a few chapters, while I listen to the thunder crashing and the rain pelting the windows.
I've got a start on my latest needlework project, so I thought I'd share that instead. I opted for something small and (hopefully) quick. It's a folk art design that I'll make into a pincushion--complete with little beads around the edges. It's by my favorite designer, Carriage House Samplings. So far it measures all of 1-1/2" x 1-1/2". I'm stitching it on 40 count linen. If you're not a stither, this means there are 40 threads to one inch of fabric--not the densest of linens, but it's pretty close. I don't wear glasses, but I do use magnifier glasses to stitch on such a small count linen. I think I like stitching on smaller count linen because flaws in my work aren't readily apparent. The actual colors are much more subdued in reality than the neon-ish quality in the chart photo. According to the designer the cushions were inspired by rugs hooked in the early to mid-1800s. I'm hoping to complete the stitching in the next week or so. I have a feeling the beading might take longer than the stitching (you may not be able to tell in the photo, but the beads are in loops around the cushion)! I'll share a photo when I finish.
