I've really been enjoying my weekly short story reading, which will be coming to an end with the last story in the collection I'm reading for this coming weekend. I'd like to continue reading short stories--specifically more by Daphne du Maurier as I'm really clicking with her work right now. This is something I would like to do over the long term--no set plans here. I still want to read Katherine Mansfield's stories, but as I'm on a roll with Daphne, I'll stick with her and save KM for next year. I've found that when I overload myself with plans and projects I don't manage to accomplish very much at all, so better to just work on this when the mood arises (and since I'm in the mood at the moment...).
I mentioned that I wanted to find a complete list of stories, but I can only seem to find lists of her works, not the individual stories. So I'll make a list myself and add to it as I go. I was surprised to find I have several volumes of stories, though I'm sure I'm missing at least two. There seem to be a variety of collections, some are the same that have simply been retitled or are different editions with different covers. I'll have to add the missing collections to my (growing) wishlist. I think I have plenty to work on at the moment without adding anything more to the pile anyway.
Daphne du Maurier's Short Stories:
Kiss Me Again, Stranger - A Collection of Eight Stories Long and Short. Pocket Books, 1953 (this edition is the 5th printing May, 1970). The cover is completely cheesy--I wonder which story the blue man and woman belong to. Contains:
Kiss Me Again, Stranger
The Birds
The Little Photographer
Monte Verita
The Apple Tree
The Old Man
The Split Second
No Motive
The Breaking Point - Collection contains nine stories. Pocket Books, 1959 (this edition is the 6th printing November, 1971). Another cheesy cover, though less so than the one on the top of the pile! Contains:
The Alibi
The Blue Lenses
Ganymede
The Pool
The Archduchess
The Menace
The Chamois
The Lordly Ones
The Limpet
The Breaking Point: Short Stories - Virago Modern Classics edition, 2009. Introduction by Sally Beauman. The same stories that appeared in the 1971 edition are in this one as well with the exception of The Limpet, which was not reprinted here.
Don't Look Now - Contains nine stories. New York Review of Books, 2008 (previously collected stories). Edited and introduction by Patrick McGrath. Contains:
Don't Look Now
The Birds
Escort
Split Second
Kiss Me Again, Stranger
The Blue Lenses
La Saint-Vierge
Indiscretion
Monte Verita
Don't Look Now and Other Stories - Penguin Modern Classics, 2006 (previously collected stories). Contains:
Don't Look Now
Not After Midnight
A Border-Line Case
The Way of the Cross

No Motive
Panic

The stories in this collection were all written between 1927-1930 when the author was under twenty-three and before the publication of her first novel. They were previously published in various periodicals.
The Doll: Short Stories - Virago Modern Classics, 2011, Introduction by Polly Samsun
East Wind

And Now to God the Father
A Difference in Temperament

Mazie
Nothing Hurts for Long
Week-End
The Happy Valley
And His Letters Grew Colder
The Limpet
I seem to be missing The Rendezvous and Other Stories and Early Stories (stories written betwen 1927-1930). There may be more, but I'll have to do a little research to figure out what's what. The library will likely come in handy in a case like this. I don't expect to write about each story individually, but as I make my way through the different collections I'll let you know how it goes.
