It's just as well that I've not accumulated much in the way of more library books, after yesterday's proclamation. Practically in the same breath as I said I'm not starting anymore new books I turned to my book pile next to my bed and looked longingly at the titles closest to the top. But I'm going to try very hard to whittle my pile down to a more reasonable size and I have plenty of excellent books to choose from. As a matter of fact two of my recent library requests (both thanks to interlibrary loan) are already either started or already on the table and ready to go.
First I had to get the film, Breakfast at Tiffanys to go along with this book I recently came across. Since the story itself is more of a novella than novel, I might just slip that one in and have a little reading/movie festival some weekend very soon.
Has anyone read Lynda La Plante? I've seen her name around, and when I saw a new book out by her I decided I might give her mysteries a try. Silent Scream sounds very suspenseful, though this is the fifth novel of the series (when I usually like to start at the beginning).
Next up in my Dorothy Whipple-fest is They Knew Mr Knight, which is actually a lovely Persephone edition though you wouldn't know it by its unlovely permabound cover. Can't blame the library loaning it out for wanting it to be sturdy and ready for heavy use (which I hope it gets). I've yet to properly start this one, but after I finish a book or two I'll be ready to begin. It's a long book but will hopefully be an absorbing story.
And I couldn't bear waiting for Lucie Whitehouse's The Bed I Made to be published here so I requested it through ILL. Yay for libraries. The copy I got looks brand spanking new so I will try and go easy on it and return it in as pristine shape as I can. I've just started it, but I'm trying to figure out what's what as Whitehouse sort of drops you into the story without a lot of explanation. It's a little disorienting but will probably be really effective for a suspenseful story.
Now that I am a reader with a mission, I will be focusing on just one or two books this weekend and they will most likely be Tana French's Faithful Place and Winifred Eaton's Me. And hopefully I'll get caught up with blog reading (which usually only lasts for a day...and then I fall behind again).
What will you be reading this weekend?
