Well, I'm packed and ready to go and by the time this "posts" I should be winging my way to the beautiful city of San Francisco! First up on the agenda after we get checked in to our rental will be a visit seaside! I can't believe I get to see the ocean again finally.
After much deliberation, this is my optimistic pile of books that will be going with me. Two books that I am midway (or a bit beyond) through and two new books. I started Jane Austen's Emma earlier this year and had a sudden desire to return to it. She'll go in my suitcase for the return journey (which includes a four hour layover in Denver). I was making good progress on Elizabeth Chadwick's The Falcons of Montabard when I had to set her aside to finish a library book. She'll be carried on the plane, and I'm looking forward to getting back to the story and hopefully finishing it on my westward journey. And tucked into my tote for reading while I'm there is Agatha Christie's They Came to Baghdad and Mary Stewart's This Rough Magic.
Remember earlier this month I was having a bookish craving for a particular story? I hadn't thought of Agatha Christie, but They Came to Baghdad might just work perfectly. It's a story of adventure and intrigue, a mysterious traveler, whispered warnings and secret agents. I loved the Tana French novel I just finished, but it was quite gritty and fairly bleak. A good, gentle mystery/suspense story is what I need now and both the Christie and the Stewart will make a good balance to the book I just finished.
I had hoped to catch up on blog reading and emails before I set off, but time ran out unfortunately, so I will catch up with everyone when I return. (Thanks for the many well wishes on my vacation by the way--they are much appreciated). In the meantime I hope to have a few fun adventures myself and will report back in a week's time. As I was messing with my new camera over the weekend trying to acquaint myself with the various features I took a few fun photos that I will share this week. They are set to post automatically while I'm away, but otherwise I won't have access to a computer while I'm gone.
I hope everyone has a terrific week filled with lots of good books! See you soon.
