Ooh, yes, I thought Penelope too, then I wondered about Arachne and then I thought, no!, Clytaemnestra and the purplish linens that help lure Agamnenon to his death. I'm so intrigued now.

Caroline

I'm loking forward to read this story as well now that you like it so much.
I've been toying with the idea to get an e-book subscription to the Ellery Queen Magazine. Do you know if it's any good?

Stefanie

I thought of Penelope too right when you mentioned the weaving! Sounds like a good story. I am very curious about Knausgaard but haven't taken the plunge to try his huge series yet. I will looking forward to hearing what you think of it so I can decide once and for all whether I'd like to read it.

Danielle

I didn't think of Arachne--must go and look that one up. Obviously there is more to this story than meets the eye. And it is suspenseful, too. You have to get this collection--I am sure you will enjoy it! :)

Danielle

This is a great story collection--I've liked all the stories I've read so far--some more than others, but they've all been good. I do get the Ellery Queen Magazine and enjoy the stories--should really write about more of them here-though I have not read them all and have fallen behind in reading the issues--so typical of my magazine reading (which is why I have tried to make a point of at least reading each new Yorker story!). Can you do a sample issue of EQMM on the Kindle? Give it a try and see if you like the stories?

Danielle

After I finish this collection I need to get back to the NYRB Balzac collection, but I must say these are hugely entertaining and easy going--I will be reluctant to finish it! I really liked the Knausgaard story (at least I have finally finished *some*thing written in translation...this reading year is a little rocky at the moment). I have ordered the first book--will let you know how it goes. I am not even sure if the books are chunky or not--and what sort of reading I am getting myself into!

I'm skimming through your review of this a bit because I do plan to get to this book one of these days... Granted I'll probably have forgotten any details by the time I do get to it! ha,ha... But, I just had to tell you that I was so excited when I finally found EQMM at the bookstore this week. They hadn't carried it in a long time that I was almost wondering if the magazine was no more! Did you say you subscribed to it? I probably need to do that.

Danielle

I do subscribe to EQMM--must admit however that I have fallen behind in my reading of it--maybe I will take it in my bookbag tomorrow. I have a little pile of them that I keep looking forward to reading. The Weinman collection is great by the way--you will enjoy it when you get to it. I look forward to each story every weekend. But I warn you, you will want to buy more books--I keep discovering new to me authors who I want to read more of!
