Maybe it is just me, but this week has felt like the Longest week! Or am I just wishing for the weekend to come too hard (and too early?), but I have been dragging all week and a little down time will be very welcome.
So, a few little links to start the weekend out with (because you can never have enough reading material, right?).
It's nice to read that the "art of translation is undergoing a renaissance". It is a gentle reminder to myself (nudge nudge nudge nudge) that I should have at least one book on my reading pile that has been translated.
And following on that thought, I think it is fascinating when an author learns another language and then goes on to write in that second language!
Ugh. Don't worry, I would never waste my money buying books in This situation. I can think of better ways to spread literacy and share reading with others!
Here's another Must Read crime novel along the lines of what I went through with Emma Flint's (which is now in progress). Should I wait my turn for the library copy I am in line for, or should I break down and buy a paper copy from the UK?
I'm kinda binging on graphic novels and comics at the moment. I seem to go in phases, and this is a 'must have visuals with my reading' phase it seems.
And if it is not graphic novels I am also reaching for shorter reads and I am lusting after these two books.
Hey, a little bookishness you can wear. And some you can write with! If you order soon, you can get free shipping on the pins. I would opt for the Little Prince set myself.
Someday, I swear, I am going to start one of those free little libraries. I have plenty of books I could start out with. I fear my neighborhood is not the most um, literary. But maybe this is the best place to start one? Until then I plan on voting for my favorite design here. (And you can, too!). I'm personally leaning towards Book Cheese!
Do you think this is true? Or possible? I try and fit in reading any moment I possibly can (and I am not even on social media all that much) but I can't come anywhere near reading that many books in a year!
I think I know what I want for my own little Valentine's gift to myself. There is a new Great Course on detective fiction, which is right up my alley. There are 36 lectures covering every topic from the locked room mystery to Nordic Noir and everything you can think of in between. It is on sale at the moment--I would get the audio download so I can listen while walking. I wonder what sort of wishlist of books I would end up with after going through all those lectures?
This weekend I will be off to Klimt-era Vienna as well Essex, England and maybe even London. Where will you be (armchair) traveling this weekend?
I'll leave you with this happy reminder about Mr. Darcy (just in time for Valentine's Day) . . .
