Hooray for long weekends, and I think I have earned this one! It has been crazy-busy at my job and I am ready for some much needed rest and relaxation. On my current reads pile I have four books I am nearing completion with another one I want to spend time with, so it likely will be quiet here until Tuesday as I squeeze in as much reading time as I can in the next few days.
If I do happen by I might just share my newest bookish acquisitions--I have gotten some lovely goodies in the mail that I can't wait to read. While I am waiting to drop them into the reading queue the next best thing is always to share them with other readers.
If I do manage to finish a few books, I have a few lined up to start: another Baileys longlister, Naomi Alderman's Power and my newest NYRB Classics subscription book, The Farm in the Green Mountains by Alice Herdan-Zuckmeyer, which I have been excited about reading. I am hoping to read just one short story from my Granta collection (one seems manageable, right?).
Oh, and I might as well admit to it . . . I picked up Rhys Bowen's In Farleigh Field, just meaning to take a little peek and she grabbed my interest so fully that the book somehow (not sure how . . . ) found its way into my bookbag. Suspense, romance, escapism? Yes, that is really what I need at the moment. Surely that will take my mind off life's other stresses. I tried her Molly Murphy mysteries but the first one did not click with me--maybe I need to try the second one and give it another chance. In any case I do very much like Lady Pamela--and another WWII setting. There will be Aussie Lit this weekend, too.
While I am away, I will leave you with a few links to peruse.
I still need to read Elena Ferrante's quartet of books, but as I am always happy to read other books by Italian authors, here are a few I will be checking out. I already had a few titles from this list on my own wishlist.
I'm not a Goth, but I do like Gothic literature, so I will be seeing if there are any potential reads for me here.
Did you see that TNT is adapting Caleb Carr's The Alienist to the small screen? Here is the trailer and it makes me want to pull out my copy to reread. I'm not sure when it will air, but I am keeping it on my radar!
Via Cornflower I have discovered The Joan Aiken Future Classics Prize, which sounds really interesting. A list of potentially award winning books to follow in August!
I am once again back on Netflix--rather I am hoping to enjoy a month of free viewing as I decide whether to subscribe again (am feeling very 'meh' about Amazon's streaming choices. So if there is some favorite show do please share. It's fun having such a new variety of things to choose from to watch.
Finally, I am hoping to go laptop shopping this weekend. It has been so difficult trying to use my home computer. Very challenging (and frustrating to use such a dinosaur of a computer). Fingers crossed and maybe I can finally begin to catch up with everyone else's blogs!
I hope you get to enjoy a long weekend, too. Happy reading everyone!
