Just a very few bits and bobs for the weekend.
I feel very remiss that I have been so absent here. I can't seem to manage my time as well as I used to, and once you fall into a cycle of laziness it is amazing how easy it is to get used to it! Then there is the overwhelming feeling of having fallen so behind in writing about books. I don't consider my book posts proper reviews, but I do like to finish a book I've read and tidy the experience up by writing about. I have missed so many of those opportunities this year that it feels overwhelming to try and catch up now.
I've been thinking about what to do with this space. How to talk about books with other readers and still feel like what I post here has some value for my own reading habits and maybe, too, in some small way for others who stop by. So, maybe rather than feeling like I need to review a book when I finish, turn this into more of an online reading diary. Talk about the books I want to read and am reading as I go and not feel like I need to give it some sort of critical review when I have finished. There are other readers who do such a better job at that sort of blogging than I do.
So, if I can get into a new habit, I will be (hopefully) posting more regularly about what I am reading. Likely this will not be every day, but I hope several times a week. Excerpts from books, links, lists of books coming or long forgotten that have appeal. We'll see how it goes and what inspires me along the way.
For now, though, just a few links of a few things I have come across this week.
Is this not the coolest thing? I would love to have one or two for my bookshelves. I don't think they are for sale, and if they are I don't imagine I could afford one, but I love the idea.
Honestly I am not sure how I feel about this--a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale? At least it is being written by Atwood herself. For me, some stories just stand alone and are best left alone. Then again Hilary Mantel has pulled off successful sequels. It could work. I have not even seen the TV adaptation (I need to, but I feel like it would be too unsettling . . .).
Yeah, I need to move to Helsinki, Finland. The most literate country in the world? What paradise, eh?!
That wonderful and dreaded time of year--best books lists (of which I swear I have read So Few of those books it makes me feel like a slacker!). But I do love this interactive one!
I'm pulling this book off my shelf. As weird as it sounds I love domestic crime fiction--and I swear this is, or should be, a proper subgenre. I like it better these days than most contemporary suspense fiction.
And I leave you with something that I have added to my own holiday wishlist (which I bet I will end up ordering). I had not heard of Olga Suvorova before, but then I saw a calendar of her work (too bad I already have ordered mine for 2019). But maybe I will treat myself to this puzzle.
Have a great weekend everyone and happy reading!
