Every day this week I have thought of all the wonderful bookish things I want to share here, and then each day passes with me and a massive to-do list that never gets done. I am at the really busy time now at work. Books being ordered, books coming in, invoices needing paying, faculty needing materials for the summer. All semester I have been begging for book orders (to spend out those budgets), but I was hoping they would not come quite All at Once! My happy little burbling stream of a work day has turned into rushing waters and I am mostly just spinning around and around trying to stay afloat. But I'll catch up.
So I have lots to tell you about but not the energy at the moment in which to put 'pen to paper' so to speak. I just lose steam by the time I get home and try and read a few pages of my book or watch something mindless on TV, or just fritter away a little time relaxing looking at shoes or some other silliness online. Sometimes you just need to let your mind wander around nothing in particular.
The good news--according to Goodreads I am one book ahead of my set goal. (Or I will be as soon as I finish reading An American Marriage by Tayari Jones, which I will do tonight or tomorrow at the latest). I have already picked up again (and will be reading to finish in earnest as soon as I turn that last page of the Jones novel), Anthony Quinn's wonderful Freya. It is a chunkster, but a good one that doesn't feel as heavy as it looks. Will I move on to the next book that is somewhat related or pick up something by another author? Still contemplating that one.
I'll be spending time this weekend with Kinsey Millhone (must finish J!) and have picked up a Daisy Dalrymple cozy mystery, because I need a little coziness with all the other craziness at work. And if I get an Agatha Christie in the mail soon (I ordered a couple of used books) I might start one of those as well.
I have decided on a summer reading project. I am going to armchair travel to Japan this year! But more about that later. And what I have wanted to share with you for days--a few books on "quiet" and "stillness" that I have been really into of late. So, some things to look forward to. I also have my sister's birthday to celebrate and a Broadway show to see. I hope your weekend is also filled with some lovely things to read or do or just to relax with a book! And I will soon be back with lots of bookishness!
