April 12. I wonder if I am coming to the party, as it were, too late? In the spirit of reading along as part of the virtual bookish community (from which I am sorry I am so often absent from these days), I have Agatha Christie's Murder in Mesopotamia: A Hercule Poirot Mystery in hand to begin. It will be my 'gym' book and what better distraction than a good vintage crime novel?
I suspect most other readers are more in sync with what is happening in the book world and the 1936 Club (I love this illustration above by the way) and have already read and written about their choices. They will, then, offer me inspiration to be a dedicated read this week. I am not the fastest readers, so it might well take me to the end of the month to discover the murderer, but as they say, it is the journey and not just the destination that matters.
I tend to prefer Miss Marple over M. Poirot, but it has been a while since I have been in his company and I expect to be entertained and enlightened. In this adventure: "It is clear to Amy Leatheran that something sinister is going on at the Hassanieh dig in Iraq; something associated with the presence of 'Lovely Louise', wife of celebrated archaeologist Dr. Leidner. In a few days' time Hercule Poirot is due to drop in at the excavation site. But with Louise suffering from terrifying hallucinations, and tensions from within the group becoming almost unbearable, Poirot might just be too late . . ."
Surely, though, he will not be too late to uncover the murderer!
Always nice to have an excuse to pick up a new book!
