General laziness today. I was out and about last night in the blogosphere and have bookmarked many interesting things! I thought I would share a few here--you may or may not have seen these already:
Yummy: Great Meals in Literature via A Reader's Footprints.
Check out the longlist for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award for 2014. Yummy is the word, too, for that list of books (I've printed it out). I've read a mere one (yikes!), but I have several more on my reading pile. Hmm. Should I pick one out to read now. Any excuse to start a new book!
So, the temptations for 2014 reading begin! Via Read Warbler I see Read Scotland 2014. Doesn't that sound like fun? I could use a trip (readerly or otherwise) to Scotland. Actually my postal book is this, which has a lovely Scottish setting, so maybe I should join in? It is being hosted by Peggy Ann.
I thought I wanted to read Eleanor Catton's The Luminaries, but Harriet has convinced me that I need to. I wonder if it is out yet in paper in the UK (it's a hefty hardcover). I am in line for it now at the library.
Book envy. I want what Dovegreyreader has! Lovely Virago editions. Am I really on a book buying moratorium?
Another temptation and considering my habit of reading books set in this era I think I will have to join in with this one. Via Fleur Fisher I have discovered Reading the Great War (organized by Library Thing's Virago Modern Classics Group). I'll certainly be investigating this further. I have noticed lots of books on WWI crossing my desk at work lately--I should be keeping a list!
But it's good others are keeping lists! Check out Sarah at Reading the Past's Historical Novels focusing on the WWI Centenary: Part One and Part Two! Lots of books I'll be looking for at the library.
I quite enjoyed perusing Kathy at Catching Happiness's travel photos! Especially the more bookish destinations of Mark Twain's home and Thoreau's Walden and Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House. Someday I would love to visit there, too.
Never a dull moment in the book blogosphere, is there?!
